The volleyball team lost 2-3 to Bluffton on Friday, marking its first HCAC loss of the season. The five-set match dropped the Grizzlies to 2-1 in conference and 13-8 overall.

“The team fought really hard,” said head coach Mary Helak, “I couldn’t be any more proud of their effort, but in the end we just came up a little bit short.”

Franklin lost the first set of the night 16-25 but responded with a dramatic rally to erase a five-point deficit and take the second set 26-24.

The Grizzlies won the third set 25-22 before losing the fourth set 15-25, which prompted a fifth and final set.

Bluffton won the tie-breaking fifth set 11-15, claiming four of the last five points to win the match.

“They (Franklin) played like a team. They played together. They played with fight, and you could tell they wanted to win,” Helak said. “The score just did not show that in the end.”

The Grizzlies look to bounce back from the loss on Tuesday as they host Transylvania. The Pioneers are currently 4-0 in the HCAC.
