The Franklin College men’s tennis team picked up two wins this weekend over Defiance College and Mount Saint Joseph University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

The Grizzlies (9-5, 7-1) finished second in the HCAC standings and earned a first-round bye for next weekend’s conference championship tournament. The team concluded the season on an eight match winning streak.

On Sunday, Franklin defeated Mount St. Joseph 8-1 in the regular season finale. The team swept all three doubles matches. Senior Ryan Hammer teamed with his brother, freshman Alex Hammer, to lose only one game at No. 1 doubles.

Senior Robby Woehrle coincided with freshman Kyle Sauley to win 8-4 at No. 3 in doubles. Woerhle did not drop a game on his way to winning at No. 5 singles. Sauley also was victorious on the No. 6 court.

Alex Hammer was also successful in his singles match after he picked up a 6-3, 6-4 triumphant win at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Ethan Caldwell lost only four games at the No. 2 singles position. Senior Luke Snyder rounded out the winners with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles.

The Grizzlies will open the conference tournament on Saturday, May 2. The HCAC tournament will be played at the West Indy Racquet Club.
