Men’s Grizzlies rally but fall short against Transylvania

The Franklin College Men’s basketball team rallied late Wednesday night against Transylvania, but came up short in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play 78-71.

Franklin fell to 4-11 in HCAC play and 5-17 overall on the year. The Grizzlies are eighth in the HCAC standings. Transylvania improved to 9-6 in conference play and 12-10 overall. The Pioneers sit in fifth place as the conference tournament approaches.

Sophomore Aaron Mann led the Grizzlies in scoring with 23 points. Freshman Jim Mace helped the Grizzlies with 16 points. Mace shot 67% from the field. Junior Trae Washington added 12 points and hauled in 5 rebounds. Washington also led the team in steals with 6.

The Grizzlies had a tough time controlling Alex Jones, who scored a game-high 29 points for the Pioneers. Parker Stansberry helped seal the game for Transylvania after two big free throws to extend the lead to 75-71 with 19 seconds left. Stansberry had 13 points on the night.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Richmond, Indiana, to take on Earlham College.
