Franklin baseball rallies to split doubleheader in season finale

The Franklin College baseball team split a doubleheader against Manchester University on Saturday after the team picked up a 6-3 win the season finale.

The Spartans won the opener 13-4.

In the second game, Senior Jameson Brock hit a double that gave Franklin a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning. Mitch Frey scored on the hit.

Frey was able to single home junior Chase Steinbrunner in the eighth inning. Junior Jason Simpkins helped the Grizzlies with a run-scoring single that increased their lead to 6-3 in the final inning.

The Grizzlies earned 14 hits in the win. Frey led with four hits. Brock added three hits, and senior Tyler Ison earned two hits. All three position players played in their final collegiate game.

Brock ended his four-year career with the fourth most hits in school history (218), the third highest career batting average (.368), and the seventh most runs scored (133).

Frey earned 157 hits and scored 118 runs in his Franklin College career. The senior batted .375 during the 2015 campaign.

The teamed finished 17-23 overall on the season and 10-17 in HCAC play.
